I posted a list of possible races I was thinking of running a few days ago, and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. It’s not a “For Sure” list, merely a list of potential races that sounded good for one reason or another. Mostly the reasons were based on location, though a few were based on timing and distance.
One of the most important factors next year will be location and company. “Company” meaning, is there someone I know that will be running the race? If the answer is yes, then there’s a good chance I’ll do my best to run. If the answer is no, then the race better be the best thing since sliced bread for me to consider it. I’m not excited about heading out of town to run a race by myself. I did that this year, so now I can check that off my list of things that I need to do before I die. Now, I want to run with friends.
So friends, new and old, let me know where you’re racing, sell me on the course, and I’ll see how the timing works out. I’m excited about the company I will be keeping, as that seems more important than hitting a goal right now.

Hi Lara– thanks for this post. My thing this year is that if I am going to bust my butt to train, I would like it to be for a good cause. I really like "Tri for your Cause" — the race is on June 5– you can do the tri, a duathlon or a 5K run so I think many would join us! What do you think? We could pick a cause that we all like and do it for that particular cause. Short: 750 mtr Swim – 17 mile Bike – 3.1 mile RunIntermediate: 1500 mtr Swim – 23 mile Bike – 6.2 mile Run 1 mile Run – 17 mile Bike – 3.1 mile Run 3.1 mile Run

I think a Cause is a good thing. We should keep it in mind. I know Siga was talking about the South Dakota Half Marathon at the beginning of June, and that sounded like a ton of fun cuz we could take the family up there and camp out. So, we'll have to pow-wow and make our plan, because these things come up fast!

I love nothing more than plotting my race schedule for the next few months — those un-run races have such potential! But I’m also cautious, and say each one is tentative until I absolutely have to sign up. I don’t want to provoke the Running Gods by assuming I won’t be injured or something.
Running with friends is the best, isn’t it? I need more runner friends (I live near Chicago, they shouldn’t be hard to find!)
