I’ve got the Monday morning “blah’s”.
It didn’t start out that way. I woke up early and headed to the pool for Master’s swim. Haven’t been there in a LONG time (too long to even remember, was it November??) and it was great to be back in the water. I swam in the slow lane so I wouldn’t hold anyone else up. The movement and rhythmic pull of my arms felt fantastic. I need to work on my lat muscles though, they’re a little weak and my right arm has a tendency to flop in the water, making pretty but useless swishing patterns.
It’s a balmy 45 degrees today, and the forecast is calling for more of the same, all week. The sun is shining, the ground is a veritable soggy mess, and I’m in a funk. What gives?
I got off my chilly bum and took Kirby for a walk a few minutes ago. The sunshine helped, though I’m still cold. The kids are in school, there’s plenty to do here, and I don’t want to do any of it. I’m in a funk, funk, funk, I’m in a nasty funk, funk funk…

play some funk, funk, funk and dance around the living room for a while, sometimes it helps….

Sorry to about your Monday doldrums. If you makes you feel better, I have it too (partly due to pms + a slight cold).
Lots of people have Monday blues (in fact, most suicides are committed on Mondays), especially during these tough, bleak-looking winter months. Hang in there!!
“In the midst of winter, I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer.” – Camus
Thanks Samantha. I think my “blues” are partly hormonal, party feeling the unease of some upcoming changes. Not sure what to tackle first. I hope your cold gets better soon and doesn’t get any worse. And, I like the Camus quote. I’m going to tuck that one away for safekeeping.
Lara – sorry your Monday hasn’t been a great one – Tuesday’s just around the corner which is always a help! For me to shake out of it I rely on music. I actually have the Boomtown Rats “I don’t like Monday’s” in my running playlist for Monday mornings just to make me laugh about it. Does the trick more times than not.
Here’s to a better Tuesday!
Best from Austin, Joe
I find just getting outside changes my mood…strange but true.
I can appreciate a good funk. Some people are more affected by weather and time of year. A good run will knock you out of the funk.
Ohhh, girl, I feel ya. I woke up on Monday still just totally exhausted from holiday travels. Ignored it, and found myself feeling like I’d been punched when it came time for my Tuesday night run. I spent the night on the couch watching The Hangover, which might just be the cure to all ills … may your funk go away just as speedily!
